In the dying minutes of the semifinal, Maren Meinert and Birgit Prinz sealed the 3zero win. They beat Sweden 1zero within the semi-ultimate, and on 12 July 1997, claimed their fourth European championship with a 20 win over Italy, with targets from Sandra Minnert and Birgit Prinz.
